Questionnaire: Do I Need a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?

Posted July 31, 2018 in Liposuction, Tummy Tuck

Many men and women who long for a sculpted abdomen often look into plastic surgery to achieve their dream body. Liposuction and tummy tuck surgery are two of the most popular and common surgical procedures that help patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their stomachs.

While you may believe that you are a candidate for both procedures, one may be more beneficial to you than the other. This questionnaire can help you decide which procedure is right for you.

Are you unhappy with abdominal fat but have good skin elasticity?

If you are someone who has good muscle tone and firm skin, then liposuction is just the procedure for you. Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that can give you a more desirable figure by removing unwanted and stubborn pockets of fat from the abdomen, chest, arms, buttocks, back, thighs, and arms. Although liposuction is effective in eliminating abdominal fat, those patients with excess skin or skin laxity are better suited for tummy tuck surgery.

Do you suffer from abdominal skin laxity and excess fat?

Patients with excess skin and weak abdominal muscles may want to consider tummy tuck surgery. Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that addresses loose or sagging skin in and around the lower and upper midsection by tightening the underlying muscles. You will have the option of choosing either a mini or full tummy tuck, depending on your desired results.

Do you have pockets of excess fat and loose skin in the abdominal area?

If you find yourself struggling with both excess fat and loose skin in the abdominal area, then liposuction can be added to a tummy tuck procedure to provide optimal body contouring results. Both procedures can address excess fat around the hips, flanks, and muffin top.

Do you have the time to spare for a lengthy recovery?

While liposuction and tummy tuck surgery provide long-lasting results, the recovery period is different for both. Because tummy tuck surgery is a longer and more complex procedure than liposuction, it requires a bit more recovery. Liposuction, on the other hand, is typically a little less involved afterward.

Do you plan on becoming pregnant after your procedure?

Keep in mind that pregnancy can compromise either of these procedures. If you have had liposuction and wish to become pregnant, it may be likely that you will gain back some weight around the abdomen during your pregnancy. Patients who have had a tummy tuck procedure should understand that pregnancy may reverse their results. If you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant, be sure to speak with your doctor about this concern during your consultation.
