Cosmetic Surgery Patient FAQ

What is cosmetic surgery?

Cosmetic surgery reshapes and contours parts of the body to improve one’s appearance and self-esteem. There are different types of surgeries available to address different parts of the body.

What is the recovery process like?

The recovery process for cosmetic surgery depends upon the treatment. There is usually minimal downtime for procedures like a tummy tuck. Dr. Goldschmidt’s clinic will prescribe appropriate pain medications to help you through the recovery process. Most procedures have minimal discomfort. However, procedures such as a liposuction and abdominoplasty are slightly more uncomfortable.

How many Americans get cosmetic surgery every year?

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 14,6 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in 2012.

Am I a good candidate for a cosmetic surgery procedure?

Dr. Goldschmidt carefully consults with each patient to determine if they are a good fit. Some factors may be discussed in the consultation include certain lifestyle factors, like:

  • Current weight
  • Dietary habits and nutrition
  • Exercise habits
  • Smoking, alcohol consumption, and lifestyle patterns

Do men get cosmetic surgery? If so, what are the most popular procedures for men?

In the past several years, men have accounted for about 10% of all cosmetic surgery procedures, at about 1.1 million treatments. Many men get liposuction and contouring procedures after weight loss treatment.

Will there be any visible scarring?

With any type of surgery, scarring is a normal part of the recovery process. Dr. Goldschmidt has received specialized training to minimize the size of these scars. Over the course of time, your scars will become almost invisible.

What types of results should I expect?

With cosmetic surgery, you can expect a better image with more self-confidence.
