Microneedling in Cleveland, OH

Microneedling is a nonsurgical skin treatment designed to resurface the skin, improve skin texture and tone, smooth out wrinkles, decrease unwanted pigmentation from sun damage, and reduce pore size. Other skin concerns, such as stretch marks or acne scars, can also be addressed with microneedling treatments.

Am I a good candidate?

As a less aggressive skin rejuvenation technique, microneedling is safe for almost all skin types, including darker skin tones. Schedule a consultation with cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Matt Goldschmidt, so he can examine your skin, discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals, and determine if microneedling is right for you.

What is the procedure?

Microneedling is performed using an instrument with several superfine, short needles designed to gently puncture the skin. The depth of penetration can be adjusted depending on the degree of repair needed and can vary between 0.5mm and 2.5mm. Superficial penetration of the skin promotes collagen and elastin production by inducing the body’s natural healing process, resulting in a significant improvement of the skin texture and overall skin quality. Long-term results after microneedling include smoother skin and the reduction of pigmentation issues.

Our licensed aesthetician begins with applying a topical anesthesia 10 to 15 minutes prior to your session. This ensures your comfort during treatment. Your skin is then cleansed, and a serum is applied. Next, the microneedling device is used to push the serum into the deeper layers of the skin. For some patients, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), derived from a sample of their own blood, is used instead of serum. This is known as a Vampire Facial.

Directly following your treatment, your skin may appear pink and tiny scabs may form as your skin generates new, healthy cells. These symptoms should fade away a few days after the procedure. Areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, chest, legs, and any other area with stretch marks or flaws can also be treated. Microneedling thickens the skin and improves the appearance of many different skin irregularities.

Recovery

Patients may experience redness or pinkness, mild swelling, and irritation; symptoms are very similar to a sunburn. You may be advised to take it easy for a couple of days until your symptoms diminish. Avoid direct sunlight while you heal and use plenty of sun protection. Some patients can immediately resume activities as usual, with side effects fading within a few hours.

Results

The skin should appear refreshed and youthful after a microneedling treatment, and continue to improve over the next four to six weeks. It may take a few sessions to achieve your ideal results, but some patients notice a significant difference in their skin after as little as one session.

What is the average cost of a microneedling treatment?

Our licensed aesthetician can recommend the number of treatments you need to achieve your goals and provide a cost estimate during your consultation. The size of the area being treated will determine the price.

Does microneedling leave scars?

Microneedling is designed to be less invasive than surgical treatments. Any redness, pinkness, irritation, or scabs should heal within a few days without any lasting scars or marks.

Is the treatment painful?

An anesthetic cream is used before treatment to minimize discomfort. Most patients are unable to feel any pain during treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients are recommended to undergo a series of microneedling treatments, usually three to six months apart. If you have severe acne scars or extensive stretch marks, then you may wish to have a session once per month for several months. Once your ideal results are achieved, it is recommended that you return once a year for maintenance treatments. After treatment, most patients appear more youthful and invigorated with tighter skin.
