He is looking for indications of skin quality and laxity, amount of loose or extra skin, and other relevant signs of aging. If the patient’s anatomy could benefit from a facelift with neck lift, Dr. Goldschmidt will provide the patient with an idea of what they could expect from the results of the procedure.
Facelift With Neck Lift Surgery
After check-in, testing, and markings, a licensed anesthesia provider will place the patient under either twilight anesthesia or general anesthesia. When adequately sedated, Dr. Goldschmidt will make the initial incision near the ear. The exact placement can vary but it can be in front of the ear, behind the ear, or curve around it. Regardless, he will minimize the size of the incision and make it as hidden as possible.
Through the incisions, Dr. Goldschmidt will tighten the skin and underlying muscles of the face and neck. From there, he will remove any of the excess skin to create a more youthful facial appearance and contour. Occasionally, if a platysmaplasty is performed, a small incision underneath the chin is made to access the platysma muscle.
The combined facelift and neck lift takes around one hour to complete. It is performed as an outpatient procedure, so patients go home the same day.
