Cosmetic Nipple Surgery

There are many types of methods to repair the inverted nipple. More than likely the correction will involve dividing the shortened duct(s) through a tiny incision located at the junction of the nipple and the areola.
Dr. Matt Goldschmidt, a board-certified cosmetic surgeon in Cleveland, Ohio is an expert in aesthetic breast surgery and can help correct inverted or elongated nipples. These problems can be easily corrected and improved with a relatively minor procedure.

Inverted Nipple Correction

Inverted nipples maybe a common problem in women. The nipple may look like a slit or have the appearance of having a hole in the center of the areola. Inverted nipples may be a source of self-consciousness or simply bothersome. They can also result in problems with breastfeeding, infections, or other discomfort. Most women do not know that this can be readily fixed.   The cause of nipple inversion is usually a shortening or tethering of one or more milk ducts that run from the breast tissue to the nipple. Sometimes the shortening is caused by an infection or previous surgery, but most of the time patients are born with this problem. The shortened duct pulls the nipple inward giving it the “inverted” appearance.

There are many types of methods to repair the inverted nipple. More than likely the correction will involve dividing the shortened duct(s) through a tiny incision located at the junction of the nipple and the areola. This is usually done under anesthesia or sedation in the office. There is minimal pain and swelling. Patients often return to work the next day. The inverted nipple repair restores the nipple to a more natural, projecting appearance. Breastfeeding is not likely after the repair. Changes in the feeling or sensation of the nipple may not be affected by the surgery.

Nipple Reduction Surgery

Enlarged, elongated nipples may be unattractive and another source of embarrassment.  They may be unaesthetic and take away the youthful appearance of the breast.  Furthermore, they may project significantly and even be visible through clothing.  Nipple size can also be readily corrected with a minor procedure under anesthesia or sedation in the office with minimal downtime. To reduce the nipple size or length, the preferred technique can reduce the length and the diameter of the nipple. In this technique, a ring of tissue is removed from the base of the nipple allowing the nipple to collapse on itself.  This effectively shortens the height.  Removing a small portion of tissue in a vertical fashion allows for reduction of the diameter.
